| Band: Pearl Jam |
Album: Ten |
Pearl Jam’s Ten was released in
1991 after Mother Love Bone lost their lead singer Andrew
Wood due to an overdose of heroin and found Eddie Vedder.
The group sat grinding their
heads for over a year that culminated in the birth of
Pearl Jam and release of their album Ten, without a
doubt one of their best till date, as it went 12 times
platinum in the US of A.
Carrying 11 of their most heart rending
numbers, this album has Pearl Jam’s most famous
tracks till date like Alive, Even Flow, Black and Jeremy.
Jeremy, the story of a boy with a troubled childhood,
became the song the band is best known for.
Eddie's voice on this album is very rugged
yet smooth. Without raising it, he gives the impression
of being loud. Ten has a lot of drama in it as these
songs are inspired by childhood trauma that Eddie experienced.
Infact his real name was Eddie Louis Severson that he
later changed to Vedder, his mother’s maiden name.
Alive, Once and Footsteps sing a story
of a person whose father dies, as a result he goes on
a killing spree and then he is caught and executed.
Definitely one of the most influential albums in rock
history, Ten helped Pearl Jam bring out grunge to the
mainstream in the 90's.
This album is a classic in all aspects because people
from all age groups can listen and relate to it because
it has a soul, a story and drama. With Ten, Pearl Jam
has definitely left their mark in the pages of music
history.
