Kailash goes international!

Kailash Kher recently left for his first international tour.

The year 2009 has started on a very good note for Kailash Kher. The earthy singer not only tied the knot with girlfriend Sheetal in February, professionally too, he is on a high.

“Bharat ka lal baahar jakar itna kar raha hai, it’s a proud thing for Indians,” he says. Speaking about the latest album his band Kailasa has come up with, he says, “Kailasa Chaandan Mein has a rustic, authentic and pure sound. It is full of romanticism. The lyrics are simple and the idea is not to complicate feelings. Even a common man from Bhopal should be able to identify with the songs.”

Kailash’s songs have a certain earthy quality and symbolism to them. “We’ve had enough of the usual honth, gaal and aankhen. Poetry, when it becomes too literal, loses its meaning. Our culture has so much to offer in terms of symbolism that we should explore it,” he says. Citing an example, he says, “The word ‘Chaandan’ means chaandni raatein but jo pehla lafz hai, woh khushboo mein bheega hua hai.”

The album will release worldwide and adds Kailash, be available in all the big music stores across the world. As for the song he’s recorded with Rahman, Kailash reveals that it’s a song he recorded for a Hollywood film Couples Retreat. “Rahman is a close friend and he called me to sing the song. I recorded it a few days back,” he says. But it’s his first international tour Kailash’s most kicked about.

“We’ve performed abroad before but it’s always been for an Indian audience. This time, we’re going to be performing for international audiences at a number of prestigious venues. The 40-day tour will cover 15 cities and ten states. My 11 member band is naturally very excited about it,” he smiles.
