Formed way back in the 1981 by Lars Ulrich,
a tennis prodigy who found a second love in the drums, Metallica
is synonymous with the Heavy Metal. Patching up with singer/vocalist
James Hetfield they hired bassist Cliff Burton and lead
guitarist Dave Mustaine to record their first EP Kill ‘Em
All.
Soon enough Mustaine was replaced by Kirk
Hammett and Cliff Burton passed away in a tragic tour bus
accident leaving Metallica shattered but they went on to
discover Jason Newsted. These four were the pioneers of
metal music till a few years ago when Metallica split bringing
in Rob Trujillo in place of Newsted.
Their next several albums earned them that
mantle of biggest and most successful metal band on the
planet. But there were still a multitude of problems. Ulrich
and Hetfield always had their conflicts, but they escalated
as the years went on. Hetfield also had a problem with alcohol.
Metallica pioneered the genre known as thrash
metal. Hammett and Hetfield's blazing guitars along with
Ulrich's warp speed drumming launched a whole new style
of music. Their sound has evolved over the years and has
gotten more complex. They've explored their softer side
with some ballads and even an album with an orchestra, but
they still can rock as hard as anyone out there.
Out recording for their 9th studio album Metallica
are gearing up to take on the world of thrash metal once
again.
