Ocean’s Thirteen

Where are the women? Anyone who has
seen Mr. Danny Ocean’s latest adventure seems
to be asking the obvious question. Unlike the previous
two, Ocean’s Thirteen lacks just the one thing
which can make a movie click with its audience i.e.
the presence of strong female characters. The absence
of a Julia Roberts or a Zeta Jones lends the film
an air of insipidness that lingers on even after one
has made an exit.
In the third installment of Ocean’s
saga, the protagonist, Danny and his gang have a score
to settle with Willy Bank played superbly by the veteran
actor Al Pachino, who has duped their friend and mentor
Reuben Tishkoff, leaving him confined to a bed. And
what better way to settle than by ‘relieving’
Willy Bank of all his money and his precious five
diamond awards that he has won for each one of his
Hotels.
As Willy Bank prepares to open his new
hotel and casino, called ‘The Bank’, Danny
cooks up a plan to carry out yet another successful
heist with his loyalists, Rusty and Linus. A near
impossible venture where almost everything seems to
be going haywire but with a bit of luck, dash of charm
and the moolah from their previous escapades the ‘Oceanites’(
as it were) are successful in turning the tables.
To be fair to the Director’s effort, the Ocean
‘s Thirteen delivers suitably whatever it is
that the audience expects from a typical ‘Ocean’
flick i.e. style, panache , slick editing , cool frames
, smart one liners besides a reasonably engaging screenplay
coupled with fine performances. However, if you are
expecting more, then, my friend you are in for a bit
of a stretchy and somewhat boring tale of thugs! On
a scale of 1 to 10, this movie fares a score of 6.
An entertaining piece of cinema nonetheless, with
its share of laughs, it would be advisable to watch
Ocean’s Thirteen for the mayhem and magic performed
by mavericks, George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
