CBSE: Class 12 Results: Girls outperform boys

CBSE Class 12 board exams results were declared on Wednesday,20 May. and girls have once again outshined boys.

This year, 637,578 students - 264,248 female and 373,330 male - took the Class 12 board exams in the country and abroad. The pass percentage of girls was 85.94 percent, as compared to 77.40 percent for boys, the CBSE spokesperson said. The overall pass percentage recorded a marginal 0.09 percent increase from last year. The pass percentage this year was 81 percent.Chennai recorded the highest pass percentage with 92.06%. Delhi has secured the fourth position in the overall results of Class XII examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, registering a pass percentage of 2.77 this year.

The results of the Government schools in Delhi have also seen an improvement with the pass percentage going up 4.66 points. The Government schools have witnessed a pass percentage of 82.71 this year while last year the figure was 78.05. Similarly, the results of the private institutions have been remarkably good. Their students have achieved a pass percentage of 41.50 this year while the figure was 34.59 in 2006. However, the pass percentage of candidates from independent schools has registered a marginal decline from 88.68 percentage points in 2006 to 88.39 this year.

Commenting on the results Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said: "Delhi Government schools have performed better than the private and aided schools. Never before has the pass percentage of Government schools been more than 80 per cent but this time around it is 82.71 per cent."
